La Casa de Intag

An exclusive place in Otavalo offering a variety of handicrafts, coffee, and healthy and delicious foods. The store/cafe started in response to mining interests in the biodiverse region of Intag. The communities there instead chose to find other alternatives that were economical sustainable. A collaboration of Mujer y Medio Ambiente (the women’s handicraft cooperative), AACRI Coffee (organic fair trade coffee cooperative), Naturaloe and DECOIN (Defensa y Conservacion Ecologica de Intag) made the store a possibility in 2009.
