More about Aguas Negras River Lodge-Camp

ABOUT CUYABENO WILDLIFE RESERVE
Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve is a protected area located in the North – East of Ecuador, bordering Peru to the East.
Cuyabeno was established in 1979 and currently has an area of about 6000 square kilometers of Pristine Amazonian Rainforest. This stunning Rainforest contains an incredible variety of species of plants and animals, thus becoming one of the most biologically rich areas on Earth. Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve also has a breathtaking landscape that includes forest, rivers and lagoons.
AGUAS NEGRAS RIVER LODGE CAMP
Aguas Negras River Lodge Camp is a beautiful native style lodge built by natives using local materials. The Lodge Camp is located on a breathtaking spot at the shore of the Eastern part of Cuyabeno River in the heart of the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve.
This Lodge Camp takes its name from the beautiful Aguas Negras River (Blackwater River) located just a few minutes from the camp. Blackwater Rivers are a type of river with slow moving water flowing through forest and, as vegetation decays, tannin acid leach into the water turning it darkly stained, resembling tea or black coffee. Blackwater Rivers are in fact considered some of the cleanest natural waters in the world.
Facilities at the lodge are basic and simple but comfortable. We have a kitchen and dining area in one hut and a sleeping area in another. The bathrooms are located in another hut near the sleeping area.
The lodge - camp was built by natives and is owned and managed by the Kichwa Native Community.
This is an Ecotourism effort by an indigenous community that believe that tourism is a friendly ecological way that provides a sustainable income for their survival and, at the same time, helps with the preservation of one of the most biodiversity richest places on earth for the future generations.
ACCOMMODATION
The Lodge Camp is the first of its type in the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve, designed to accommodate a maximum of 16 people and provide them with a unique jungle experience. The visitors’ accommodation will be tents pitched on a native-style hut with timber flooring and no walls, but covered with a roof made out of Palm Leaf. Palm leaf roofs provide a pleasant temperature to the space inside and ensure the open areas (no walls) are fully ventilated.
Sleeping in a tent is the closest that you can be to the nature; you will hear fantastic sounds of the Jungle life during the day and the concert of insects during the night.
The tents are spacious and for single, matrimonial or double accommodation and are provided with mattresses, pillows, bed sheets and towels.
The bathrooms are communal and have showers, toilets and sinks for males and females.
CREW
Our crew members consist of experienced, well trained people ready to assist you and make sure that you have the best possible jungle experience. You will be guided by experienced bilingual naturalist guides.
The basic team crew will consist of a naturalist guide, a motor canoe driver and a chef. The crew may increase in number depending on the amount of people staying at the Lodge.
