Archaeology Vacations

Archaeology Vacations is the adventure of your lifetime!

It is your opportunity to be an archaeologist and excavate a 5000 year-old archaeological site on the Pacific in southern Ecuador. This is a hands-on experience to explore history an exotic, inspiring location at the largest pre-Columbian city known along the coast of Ecuador. This is a project of the indigenous community of Agua Blanca and proceeds directly benefit the community and the community members who work on the project as archaeologists and support the project as service providers.

You will join a team of fellow tourists from around the world, working under the supervision of trained archaeologists, excavating inside a 4km2 city that was once the capital of the Ecuador coast for 1500 years before the Spanish conquerors arrived in the 1500s. In addition to excavating, you can also work in our on-site laboratory; piecing together artifacts and conserving artifacts for eventual study and display in our museum or join our remote survey team to explore the surrounding area for more sites, even more artifacts and more history.

This will not be a passive holiday. This is a hands-on, participatory archaeology experience where you will make a meaningful contribution to archaeological knowledge and a direct economic contribution to the community of Agua Blanca.
