More about Expeditions Alive

Expeditions Alive wanted to offer the hidden beauties of Ecuador to the world but with so many travel companies popping up on a daily basis showcasing the same old attractions we felt that there was a better way to do it showcasing amazing locations that not too many people know about. We work directly with local communities and where they are located is extremely remote and this is the only source of income these communities have. Although they live mainly off the land certain needs must be met like healthcare and education. In order for the communities to freely use the funds earned from the tours for those purposes, Expeditions Alive actively reinvests in the community by training all parties involved to better serve the traveler making their stay more conformable, and improving the infrastructure already available within these areas so the community does not have to worry about that.

Our first tour

We are most proud of our first endeavor, the Expedition Ome Yasuni in the Yasuni National Park straight in the heart of Ecuador’s amazon rainforest. We’ve partnered with an amazing group of individuals who call this part of the Amazon their home, the Community of Bameno. They are a local tribe of Huaorani who’ve lived in this area for centuries. They are the direct relatives of the un-contacted tribe that live in voluntary isolation in this same area the “Tagaeri-Taromenani.” This amazing tour takes you straight into their home where they will teach you their way of life and show you how to survive in the rainforest. They are located deep within the forest and their jungle is still virgin so the opportunity to see local wildlife is extremely high. Wildlife spotting starts at the very beginning of the tour on the canoe ride in, a ton of animals congregate near the river and the local Huaorani guide (who is with you the entire trip) will let you know exactly where they are during your ride.

Why take this trip?

This voyage as almost all of our current and future expeditions not only serves as an opportunity to view the amazing animals and plants the amazon has to offer but also as a wakeup call to those who visit. The way the rest of the world lives makes a direct impact on this community. The fuel that is consumed on a daily basis by the world makes it harder to stop the oil companies from entering this oil rich land because of so much demand. The damage to our ecosystem and change in climate makes it difficult for the forest to recover from heat waves or drought. This trip will attempt to teach you to be content with what you have and will have you at least try to lessen your environmental impact. Watching entire families enjoy themselves without the need of Internet, or television will give new meaning to family time. Playing with kids who hold no fear for the unknown not infected by western civilizations stereotypes or prejudices. These are some of the lessons learned on this voyage.
