Pakarinka Learning Center”
Location: Agato Community, Otavalo-Ecuador. (20 minute walk from Peguche waterfalls)
Minimum time commitment: Volunteers one week or more; tourists 1day or more
Minimum Spanish requirement: Basic
Summary: Located in one of the oldest traditional indigenous communities “Pakarinka learning center” tourism and volunteering project aims to encourage the preservation, respect and responsibility over culture and nature. This project takes seriously the necessity of new generations to work on cultural respect and harmony between human beings and all the living things surrounding us.
Volunteering: There Volunteers can participate in a variety of community activities to learn about Kichwa culture and are welcome to assist in whatever project the community is working on.
Tourism: Pakarinka also has several options for tourists, including hiking to Ancestral places: Imbabura mountain, hike to Wanduk Rumi, Peguche waterfalls, El lechero.
Workshops: traditional medicine, handcrafts, midwives training, kichwa classes.
We offer all visitors a daily coexistence with indigenous families in the community sharing craft, culinary, cultural, agricultural, festive traditions and ritualistic for all those who visit us.
