Refugio del Gavilán

Refugio del Gavilán is located in the Chocó, which is one of the most diverse rainforests in the world, home to many endangered species found nowhere else on Earth. Today, less than 5% of the original Chocó remains.

The land is owned by Adrian Gavilanez, a local resident. Gavilanez’s land is part primary forest, part functioning farm. Through ecotourism, Gavilanez is able to preserve his piece of Eden.

The property is home to hundreds of species of plants and animals, including the endangered Long-wattled Umbrellabird.

Attractions include bird watching, a guided tour of eight spectacular waterfalls, chocolate-making lessons with locally grown cacao, and horseback riding.

The cabaña has eight beds, but also has a third floor with space for tents.
